Ineligible items when moving

The following information will assist you in deciding what items you can safely carry or expect a removalist to carry. It can be very disappointing, when you are moving, to have a removalist arrive at your property only to discover they will not move all your items. This will be because there are certain items they may not carry by law.

There are also items that you must prepare before they can move them. They are not permitted, by law, to prepare them for you. In some instances, you may have to have a qualified tradesman attend to your property.

Some items can be moved but have to be properly prepared before they are loaded onto a vehicle. These include:

Gas Cylinders/ BBQ’s
All LP Gas Cylinders must be emptied prior to transportation and must be accompanied by a gas cylinder Test centre certificate stating that they are empty. Approved agents may be found in the yellow pages under “Gas Cylinder Testing”.

Lawnmowers or other gardening equipment that contain flammable liquids
These should have the petrol drained from the tanks. If you are sending them interstate they will also need to be steam cleaned.

Pool Chemicals

Fire Extinguishers

Animals
Animals cannot be accepted for transport in a removals vehicle. All animals can be moved by specialist pet transporters by arrangement.

Plants
Most removalists will transport plants providing they are potted and can be readily moved. Some states have strict agricultural laws on the importation of plants and soil.

PROHIBITED DANGEROUS GOODS

Some commodities cannot be accepted for transport by air, sea or road under general conditions. The following, in their classes, are a few examples.

Further information about the dangerous goods code legislation can be obtained from any Government or Technical Book Shop and Workcover offices.
